Our Energy Law Department

Janson Baugniet has an entire department that is devoted to energy law. The department includes a five lawyer team advising on energy law and which has acted for numerous governments, regulatory bodies and companies.

The firm’s energy and transport department specialises in liberalisation of the energy markets in European member states as well as outside the EU including Algeria, Turkey, Iran, Morocco, Qatar, Laos, Tajikistan, in addition to countries in Central Asia and Africa. Guy Block heads the department. A member of both the Brussels and the Paris Bars, Guy has gained extensive knowledge of the energy sector during over 20 years of practice in that field.

As European energy markets liberalised and the concerns for energy supply and safeguarding the environment increased, Janson Baugniet’s energy and transport department developed a considerable expertise in energy law and advised and assisted clients in the European and non-European electricity
and gas sectors on a wide range of regulatory, commercial and corporate matters.

The energy and transport department has developed a strong practice in both the public and private energy sectors.

The department advises clients active at all stages in the energy sector drafting statutes and regulations
and the contracts for supply of gas and electricity to final consumers. Notably, Janson Baugniet has been active in regulatory issues, advising new entrants on
